View Full Version : find me a $1.00 fare to ozzie!

29-01-2005, 08:02 AM
:help: Hi
Virgin Blue are supposed to have $1 fares to OZ on the net today with $2 return
Sale was starting at 6:00am this morning, I have been searching for an hour & a half & all I cam find is a news release about it
1000 fares available from each NZ & Ozzie
It is supposed to be a bit of a treasure hunt, which I'm obviously useless at!
Am I dumb or what? (don't answer that)
Please save my monitor & my knuckles & find me a fare for $1

29-01-2005, 08:05 AM
I thought it started at 9am?

29-01-2005, 08:09 AM
Says 6:00am but not whether that's Ozzie time or NZ
Ozzie based site so may be Ozzie time
Man the coffee jar is taking a whacking!
Will sit here & wait

This (http://www.nbr.co.nz/home/column_article.asp?id=11188&cid=4&cname=Business%20Today) article says 9am, so you're probably right about aussie time:)

Says 6:00am which must be Aussie time. If I was you I'd just go through the online process to order it and see what comes up, without commiting if the low fare doesn't appear. Alternatively phone them (to get the fare for just $10 extra).

Tried ringing but no joy
Some articles I've read say online bookings only, others as you say Phone booking for $10 xtra
Tried going thru the booking process an hour ago but it stayed at normal price
Another coffee!

I'll look again at 9:00 and post back if any joy. Good luck!

Which city will you be travelling to/from, and preferred date?

Oh well, I won't need to worry about $1 fares after 8:00 tonite will I?

29-01-2005, 09:09 AM

29-01-2005, 09:10 AM

:D :D :D

Golly their site must be chokka - can't get the javascript order to open!

[edit] ignore that - it opens the booking form.

Hurry! :)

Be sure to let us know how you get on ;)

They certainly do have the special $1 fare (plus taxes), but it is quote "$1 fares are not available for return portion of journey", so unless you plan to fly out from Wellington or Christchurch and are planning on migrating to Aussie ... it is one of those "gotcha" catches with this deal

In one article they said $2 return but i can't find them
Site is slowing to a crawl now
Looks like I'll have to wait for lotto tonite
Thanks guys

To get it $1 both ways you simply have to book a single each way. The return portion incurs higher taxes of course, but not tragicaly.

Thankyou God for Ethernet & Jetstream!!! (and peanut butter)
I booked 1 to Gold Coast from CHCH on 15th on my machine
and the kids on their machine booked 1 from Gold Coast to CHCH on 22nd at the same time.
Total cost $112.00

"Happy birthday for tomorrow Mrs bartsdadhomer"
Thanks guys
I'm that happy I think I'll leave George alone today :D

Be even happier for Mrs bartsdadhomer tomorrow morning
She wanted to go see her sister over Xmas but it was just too damn dear.
I've printed off her itinerary & put $1000 cash & her passport inside her Birthday card, tied it with a bow & the kids will give it to her tomorrow morning with her coffee & croissant in bed.
If the kids don't let slip beforehand!
I better make sure the batteries in the camera are charged as I want to get this one on compactflash

Damn I missed it :(

Mine was a bit disappointing, I was up at 9am trying to get 2 adult tickets to go over to Brisbane and had them booked and I was about to enter my CC details, then I decided to book the return journey at the same time to get $1 back the other way. Then I enter the CC details:

"Error - The fares and/or flights that you selected are no longer available... although they were when the system displayed them to you initially. Someone else has just purchased the seat(s) that you were considering.

Your credit card has not been charged."

  :(

I thought it was a done deal, but apparently it doesn't secure them unless you've put the CC details in and submitted it. Something to remember for next time anyway.

Though I did manage to get two $1 tickets back from Brisbane to Chch. Airport taxes $90 each so still $186 for the lot. What's a petrol surcharge fee? Sounds like they are making you pay for fuel one way or another.

Ummm....can't really say, this is a family forum
She was stoked, I've got a heap of brownie points now!!
But as usual it won't take long for me to get rid of them :groan:

Ah, we might have known you had ulterior motives behind the noble deed - you blokes always do. :p :D

Nah... it was a noble deed and I'm sure your brownie points will last quite a while. ;)

Hope Mrs bartsdadhomer has a great time.

Yeah I agree with Foxy - that was the coolest! If Barts had mentioned what was truthfully behind the idea (remember the "Speights and Sheilas" comment? ) I reckon wed've been even more encouraged to find him his tickets! :)
