I'm a pensioner so not able to afford lots of lolly, but I want to do a little research project where I need good photographs of Christchurch from the air. I know these are available at a price! And I seem to remember being told some years ago that they were also available on the Internet for free.
Can anybody tell me where?

Gee they are cool Metla, though they're a few years old now and a bit out of date. Aerial views fascinate me - I always sit with my nose glued to the window when flying. :p :D

Thomas: this photo (http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/images.php3?img_id=10923) might interest you as well. It is way better than a similar one that used to be my desktop pic.

Biffs out current desktop pic to replace with new satellite photo... mmm, nice. :-)

I have just used some "special software" similar to that used on CSI, and I can see my neighbour was sunbathing topless by the pool that day.

Impressive! (the result, not the neighbour)

(sorry, I cannot share the software according to Grissom)

I love the green colour of Lake Ellesmere. Forsyth is a very dark green. What have people been putting in them?

Hi thomas01

You might like to try this web site. Just zoom into the area you want to see. Make sure you turn on the aerial photo layer.

Cheers

Golly I never expected to get so much interest. Thanks to all who replied. It is going to take me some time to see everything. kevinL - I didn't find any way of turning the aerial photo layer on. The boxes were just greyed out.
I noted Thomas replied - Hi there. I am Thomas01 - no relation.

Ring your city council, explain your situation, and they might be able to sort something out for you (if not free, then they might offer something reasonably priced).

If you were after pictures of Tauranga I might have been able to help :D

Interesting. Metla's link also offered Tga - you can see my house near the top right of image 35 on http://www.zl2umf.wallace.net.nz/default.asp?offset=4&region=AERAL&country=NZAER&location=TAUAE]this page. If these photos were georeferenced and you had a program that can browse georeferenced images, you could pinpoint it exactly using the coordinates in my location ;) :p

Hey mike,
Always wondered where you were, the wife and 6 kids and I will be arriving Chrissie Eve for a few weeks holiday on the Riviera of the East Coast.
Cheers, make sure you have plenty of Lion Red cold.

Wonder no more... enter the coordinates in my "From:" field on http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp]this site and click "Get Map" :) Just remember that we're south latitude, so include a - sign before the first latitude degree. Okay so it doesn't allow too much accuracy, but I guess that's safer for me ;)

:D

Well it looks a bit wet on the first, But on the decimal map Villefranch looks like apleasant place to visit but I will save that until July or August

theotherone
02-12-2004, 10:56 PM
and if I use the decimal coordinates with the negative sign it looks like you are on Kerguelen Island (SP?) probably intime for Israeli Nuclear tests if I am lucky.

Ahhhh! Thomas,
I think we have something in common. If only the budget ran to St Emelion on a regular basis
