Suddenly this aftrenoon we appear to have lost our E-mailability in OE. We have not "The connection to the server has faied". We are on broadband with Xtra. All other connections to other sites on the internet are working OK.. Where should I look for the problem. Thanks PJ

The whole error message and numbers would help PJ, as that error can have more than one cause.

Has it really "faied" or has it actually "failed"? or "fried" perhaps, if it was tea time?

Have you blamed MA yet? I would.

It could be the Xtra mail server, try again & see if you get the same message again.

Does it really say this?

Account "pop3xtra.co.nz"

If so, thats the problem.

It should be "pop3.xtra.co.nz" (it has a "." after pop3

The error should be 0x800CCC0E (they are zero's not the letters "O" or "o" I believe.

The Account itself could be corrupt, not likely but its the first thing i would do.

As you know there is no problem with Xtra, and you can surf the net. You have turned off AVG and Sygate and tested. Just keep elimating possibilities

A cheeky question here...

Have you restarted the computer since the problem started??

11-11-2004, 05:13 PM
Our power has been cut off for several hours. Just came on-line...reset router....went back to Xtra help desk for info that wasn't sent yesterday ( or that we didn't receive ;) ) to the Xtra mail box, and whilst talking to the guy at Xtra. Outlook Express suddenly popped up, alive and healthy and full of mail.

AND....GODFATHER....I am innocent. Either that, or the whole thing was my fault and sheer power of my personality ZAPPED it back into life. :^O

Computers....don't you just love 'em!!

I would suspect that resetting the router may have been the key.

The port may have been blocked?

Innocent ... ?
You surely don't expect me to believe that!

P.S.....thanks for the suggestions and help, you guys.

Cave Servant :- Yes, we tried the "switch it off- kick it-call-it-very-nasty-names" (i.e "you naughty little computer" ) .....all to no avail. However....whatever....all is now forgiven, and we WILL be letting it be part of our family again. :p.

Gave P.J chance to catch up on his knitting. :^O
