Can I connect my DVD writer into Primary IDE connector slot instead to the Secondary connector slot. If doing so , will it improve the performance?
My HD is connect to SATA.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.

I would not expect any performance change.

What is the issue with performance? System specs would help?

Nope dont think it'll make any diff whether its on the primary or secondary master or slave. I spose it depends on how what youre using / OS / memory installed. And what youre burning, and how much to DVD.

No it won't improve performance, it will actually degrade it.
It is recommended that you install your CD/DVD/CDRW drive on the secondary IDE BUS as Master using its own IDE cable.
If you are installing on the primary IDE, your hard drive would be the Master, and you should set your CD/DVD/CDRW as Slave (SL).
But in this situation, the CD/DVD/CDRW drive has to share the IDE cable with the hard drive, which may slow down the hard drive, especially if you're using an older 40 wire cable

The hdd is SATA not IDE 45. The hdd wont be sharing an IDE connection.

Man, I need to read posts more thoroughly, this is the 3rd time lately I've done this.
My bad

Some SATA implementations eg DFI Lanparty nForce fed the SATA output through the primary IDE channel master connection so it would be sharing with any drive on slave.
