Symptom: unable to boot from floppy, trouble with partion c of split c/d drive. Crash: no floppy recognition, no hard drive found by cmos. Testing: Tried drive in 333 celeron Result: cmos recognised drive. Booted from floppy, fdisk drive - deleting c: partition. Reboot on floppy set new c: partition set as primary dos reboot on floppy then format c: Problem unable to.
Have jumpered to slave and am backing up contents of d: drive with intention of fdisking total disk and again repartioning. Any suggestions would be welcome.

what error message are you getting when trying to format ?

No recognition of floppy or HDD suggests that the fault may lie elsewhere. I wouldn't format until you have resolved floppy access and HDD recognition issues. It might not be necessary.

Can you get into bios at boot?

Any other history might be helpful too, like what precipitated the problem or did it just appear one day.

unable to boot from floppy = BIOS problem or hardware fault ie lead [ out of FDD or into mobo] / power supply or FDD is faulty / needs a clean etc - have you a know good FDD to substitute for the possibly faulty one ? Can you set the BIOS to boot from CD before HDD ? OS is ? ...

Is this a flow on from your Previous Thread (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=52974&message=333469#333469) or did you clear that one up before this problem emerged?

It gets a bit complicated if we don't know all the background.
