Why is it when something is connected through a USB port it is treated like it's connected for the first time if connected to a different USB port than the one originally used on the same computer? (laptop)

In simple terms: because each usb port has its own "home directory".

This device is not in my "home directory" so therefor it must be a new one (Says the little laptop brain).

I always thought that if you installed the driver for your USB device before you plugged it in then it doesnt matter what port you install it to?

It doesnt,Its just the bubble that pops up saying,New usb device, then it matches it up with the installed driver and its all done.

If the bubble didnt exsist this thread wouldn't either.......
