View Full Version : Loss of IP Address for Network Card

I have two computers networked together; a PII using a Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet card and a 486 using a different card. Both computers are using Windows 95.

The network connection on the PII has become corrupted and the computer will not find the driver (this was probably by installation of new software). I have tried reinstalling the card and the driver many times and no joy.

I also get the message that 'The DHCP client was unable to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server'. I notice that the 486 network card has a specified IP address of 90-0-0-13 and subnet 255-255-255-0 whereas the IP address on the PII is set at automatic.

Should I manually set the IP address and subnet on the PII; and if so, how do I establish what they should be?

Is this likely to be a solution to the problem?
