Most Experienced members will not need to read this but.

3 pages.

I have no intention of reading 3 pages,But i never considered a comp to be more secure after SP2 anyhow....the only way to acheieve that is to not use it to access the Internet.

Other then that, use a firewall and AV,might as well ignore all MS patches completely.

That's basically what it says, but it does list all the functions to turn off.

which is why I posted it, it is a little old but still relevent for the sp2 home user.

good reading but...........

with all due respect and with out starting a flame war......

can anyone show me where MS said that SP2 would fix every singel bug in XP, did they every say "install SP2 and you will be protected for every from all virus and worm problems"

SP2 was to be a big fix, a big step towards a secure system, it was every thing that MS said it would be.

MS never said that SP2 would be the last patch to XP and they never said that XP would be bug free after SP2.

SP2 was and is very good.

PS, i dont work for MS i just like balance in the debate :-)

once again, a good read.

I must say I dont like MS but some MS bashing is just based on crap.
the stuff in the above artical, there are good points put foward in a well writen way.
not the normal "MS sux because they write crap software and have too much $$." which is writen by some 13 year old who couldent write a hello world program.

MS have many issues but what big company hasent.

Personally I feel its the marketing metheods, the legall garbo, and the basic software flaws combined, that create a major bad combo.

Even if they produced a good scratch built original gui o/s stealing the best out of 2k/xp on a solid foundation.

Which could be done at a hellish cost, people would still hate them they have crossed the line of no return IMHO.

Just like Telecom.

Oh goodness gracious me.
If you don't want to use MS products then don't.

Fairly simple I would think.

Go Linux or whatever.

I am getting really tired of O/S moans.

WinXP SP2 works for me.

If people want to use other operating systems, browsers, Email clients etc then why not?
