Serious error.

Boot from your XP CD and perform a repair.

Godfather,

If it is compressed, can it not be removed decompressed and returned?

Or is "compression" only an Error term?

Choose the manual repair, it's tedious clicking no to most of the files, but you might get away with just replacing NTLDR only. arcldr.exe, arcsetup.exe and ntdetect.com may be others that may need replacing but, be carefull, have a read up at MS first.

The error says compressed, but the file is corrupt.
According to Microsoft.

The boot logo is hard coded into the Windows kernel.
Its not an image as such.
Its a brave person that plays with that, you have to assume the worst will happen.
