Is it any good? Are the rpm's compatible with red hat or mandrake?

Lycoris is a nice desktop to come out of Windows and into the Linux world with. Most things are setup automatically during installation and that just saves the job of playing with funky config files when you get your machine setup.

As for packages and all - Lycoris has a "click'n'install" policy developed. In a nutshell if you want to install a new package, you fire up the Lycoris file repository and just follow the onscreen instructions - this will let you choose to install from CDROM, The Internet or uninstall existing software.
Straight foward and simple.

At the same time it offers the ability to install programs from source, and all the other funky ways you can install a program so you can improve your linux skills and build up confidence if you ever want to change to a different distro.

As for your question - are they compatible with redhat or mandrake - I honestly have no idea.
