Up graded this computer...
All went fine.... till i had to reload the drivers for the multifunction printer...
the reson i had to reload them was i changed it from a parallel cable to a USB cable... ( got me to)
the lady gave me the Driver disc and said here ya go.... and with out thinking... i installed them... oh hold.... wait... these are the driver for windows 3.1... I dont quite know how i missed that... but
( sorry... its and XP Pro box)
But anywho... they didnt work...
i relised the error of my ways.... and downloaded the ones for XP...

Reboot..... Crash...

Oh....

Reboot..... Crash...

Reboot, Safe mode.... Msconfig.... stop things from starting with windows....
(ended stopping everything)
Reboot.... Crash.....

????????????

System Restore....
Reboot..... (sweet)..... Drivers (sweet)....

IE to do windows update....

X..... This version of Internet conection wizard is for windows 3.1.. Please upgrade to a newer version....

IE would/will not start....

Ok... Uninstall IE... delete remaining folders... cant delete "C:program files/Internet explore/ connection wizard" file currently in use...

Task manager... Cant see anything thats looks relative...

Reinstall IE... Try again.... same error....

No IE... no windows update...

My question is... how do i fix this....
I can do SP2 from disc.... but dont really wont to just yet...

can i do the system file check...? is it... "sfc /scannow"...?
will the system file check work a propiertary (HP) system restore disc...
If not... can i use my Windows XP Pro disc...

Thanks

You have already rolled your system back once, how far back did you go? Try going back even further. Did IE work right after the upgrade to XP Pro? What Windows version did you upgrade from?

>can i do the system file check...? is it... "sfc /scannow"...?

>If not... can i use my Windows XP Pro disc...

If you are now running XP Pro, and run sfc /scannow, you will need the upgrade install disc if asked for, and not the original OS disc.

Another option is to do a system repair of the OS. You can find the steps here (http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxppro/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm)

Well I would try it if nothing else above helps, can it get any worse? :p
