recently my USB optical mouse keeps reporting thats its being plugged in and out, in winXP it makes that dinging noise...
when i check the wires absolutly nothing is wrong and everything is pluged in.
this only started happening a few days ago and is happening very randomly, and very often, sometimes not heppeneing for 10min, but more often than not ,happening every 10seconds.

Sounds like a broken wire within the cable, most probally right where it enters the usb connection.

You can get cheap USB optical for around $25 probably even less if you shop around. But why not spend another $20 and get a decent mouse? You can get a Microsoft Optical Wheel mouse for $43.88 or a logitech black optical mouse for $44.44. For that extra $20 you get a quality mouse that is actually comfortable.

You have yet to learn,

When you buy, you generally only get what you pay for. Less margin of course.

you may be cheap but so am i but even i wudnt buy a cheap mouse because they break easily and are useless. Just spend $20 more and you'll save money because it will last longer and better. I'm only 15 and i know that :D hehehe

The difference in quality between a 25 dollar mouse and a 40 mouse is nothing.

Besides which an optical mouse has no mechanical parts so should live at least a little while,my draw full of dead mouses is stocked with many different brands, i just gave up eventually and now use the cheap Excell Optical Mouse, none so far have died on me...Which is ironic...

Some motherboards do this. Like this one. (Asus P4P800).

As you say it makes the ding ding sound. Even tho there's nothing wrong with it. The earlier version/s of this BIOS, used to make a sound with every USB device that was plugged in on startup. People couldnt tell whether it was a prob with their system or not! So, if you had 5 USB devices plugged in, it would ding 5 times!

So, in a later BIOS update, ASUS changed it so it didnt do this with every single USB device that was plugged into a USB port, when you booted up the system. BUT it still does it during and while you're using Windows (well XP) since thats what I'm using atm.

Which suggests your mouse is losing it's connection and reconnecting.

Mirddes, try plugging your mouse in via a ps2 adapter.

I dont think so. The mouse isnt the only thing thats USB on this system.

There is also a scanner, digital cam, and internal USB 2 card reader that is also USB, which is also plugged in.

The only thing with some USB mouse/mice, is if u plug it into PS/2, the stupid light stays off, even if u turn the system off. With USB it goes off.

That SHOULD be the light stays on...

What light are you talking about, off is off isn't it? I plug my optical USB mouse via ps2 as recommended by the instructions (for win2k). There are no issues at all.
