I've got an old Toshiba Satellite 1710 CDS notebook computer. It was working fine but Internet dial up connection is dropping after every few minutes. OS: XP

Reinstalled XP and Modem driver but it doesn't help. Could it be the modem problem? How difficult it is to replace the notebook's modem? Any 'complications' in opening up the notebook?

Cheers

It could be your line. Are you in a rural area? Try ringing your ISP to see of known problems in your area.
Also, I'm not sure, but I think a laptop modem is integrated onto the motherboard, so replacing it would be problematic.

I got help from Pheonix on the modem dropping out. Go OE tools, accounts, mail (tab) then select your account and click properties button connection (tab) and make sure there is no tick in the box.
