Hello all,

Came across the following site in my wanderings, if yours is in the list it may pay to remove it and get something decent.

Was on the AD-Aware forum and someone had a question and I posted a link to this site. The pratts running the forum deleted the link in the post for some stupid reason. Their whole attitude and the deleting the link put me off ad-aware

Thanks for the link - the moderators here don't get upset when we post links into other forums, which I think is a very mature attitude. I thought one of the purposes of the web was to share information. If the moderators on other online forums are stroppy about that sort of thing then the best thing you can do is vote with your feet (or should that be mouse?) and stay right here! :D

That is a good link, there are others available so it might pay to check out what they cover, is it as comprehensive or more so?

On that topic, it is mentioned in the 101 FAQ (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=25052&message=85238) that not all anti-malaware software is safe, or words to that effect. As there is another thread with suggestions for that FAQ it may be timely to add the rogue anti-spyware link(s) to the FAQ plus the specific FAQ 8b Spyware (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=41858&message=220430). Good, bad, indifferent?

My friend had a problem too.but I don't think hijact browser is part of spyware maybe it is.Everytime she loads internet explorer it takes her to a porn site.Tried ad aware and also spybot .Nothing worked. The only way was to use a program called hijack this.Let it scan and it detected a registry which was causing the problem.Interestingly both spyware detector program failed to fix this problem!

Different issues therefore different programs to fix it. Spybot and Adaware are not primarily designed to protect against browser hijackers. Hijackthis on the other hand cannot detect a keylogger or Bonzai Buddy, no surprise in that. It's like asking anti-spam software to get to clean out viruses by detecting them, likewise, contrary to popular belief, most AV software should not be the tool of choice in getting rid of a trojan, a trojan cleaner is ;)

Malware is the generic term to use for viruses, trojans, spyware, hijackers, scripted hacks, keyloggers (unofficial), adware, redirectors, etc, to avoid using specific descriptions where they don't apply. Personally I blame the marketing droids and media for this misinforamtion, basically because they are there and convenient :D
