Hi all
I have a slight problem with AVG i'm running windows xp home and I have downloaded the AVG file, however when I try to install it a box comes up saying Can't run 16-bit Windows program and the text in the box reads "One of the library files needed to run C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\w256.tmp\setup.exe is damaged. Please reinstall the application".

I have tried the AVG file on another machine and it installs with no problem. Can someone throw some light on this.

Cheers

have a look here (http://www.grisoft.com/faq/us_faqtext.php?id=175&sid=26) - you might want to try installing it from another directory. Also, have you got winzip installed? HTH

Tried what it said in the link but still the same problem.
Thanks for your time, I will try and find something on the internet about it. I have found plenty about other problems loading AVG but not this particular problem.
Cheers

If Xp refuses to handle 16bit programs, you have a corrupt system file.
Open Windows Explorer & navigate to Windows\repair. Copy "autoexec.nt" & "config.nt" to the system32 folder.

With any luck it should now work.
It is also possible that you have a system restore point which is far enough back to be before the fault occured.

A possibility also is that it is conflicting with other files in the temp directory. This directory is used by windows to unpack files for the install process. Use a program like Ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to clean it out (along with other areas) and then try an install.
