View Full Version : Loss of network controller

I have a Pentium II computer with Windows 95 o.s. I have this networked to a 486 running Windows 95.

Twice now when I have logged on to the Pentium II, the 'Update Device Driver Wizard' has popped up and Windows will no longer access the network. I have done nothing that would affect the driver. The first time this happened I tried eveything I could think of without reinstalling the driver. Then for no apparent reason, Windows found the driver and all was OK; until last night when it happened again.

My questions are:
1. Why does it happen?
2. Is there anything I can do to force Windows to find the driver without reinstalling the driver?
3. Is a long term solution never to turn off the computer? I have noticed that Windows tends to be OK when running but occassionally gets screwed up when booting. This problem appears to be an example.

I am reluctant to reinstall the driver as I have not done this before and I have been told my many more expert than me that networks and not easy to set up.

Thanks in anticipation,

David
