View Full Version : Missing dll file

30-08-2004, 06:38 PM
I am getting the following two messages popping up in this order:
"The procedure entry point getaddrinfo could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll" and
"The procedure entry point WSCUpdate provider could not be located in the dynamic link library W32_32.dll"
I run Windows XP Home. I have used "Restore system", taken off the latest trial game my son loaded and wonder if it was a problem with linking to Auckland City library or to the new Slingshot webmail. These are my only expectations.

This site tells u what the 1st error means

The 2nd one maybe spyware.

Go here and post back what appears under run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Micorsoft\Windows\Cutr rentVersion\Run

It might be a file under run, which is bringing up this error

Are any service packs installed?

Hi Bernie,

Do a search of your hard drive for the missing file. I found a copy of it in windows/system32 and Windows/system32/dllcache.

I presume the one is a backup copy and can be used to replace the missing copy.

I went to the link at 822334 and it seems to be saying to start Visual Studio .NET2003 I did a search for this program and it did not come up. I run Office XP. What do I do now?

search for a file called trickler_4010.exe. if its on your hard drive

Get spybot from www.spybot.info and scan your system

Also that first error u asked about The procedure entry point getaddrinfo could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll).

Does it say a name of a file at all??

No, it didn't.
Have run Spybot and got rid of the other file from the registry etc.
Will now go hunting for the file you suggest.

The file trickler_4010.exe cannot be found.

It may be part of "bundle.exe" if that makes sense - that's what shows at the top of the error.
