View Full Version : Strangest way to power off a pc

One of the factors in upgrading my pc recently was that my old one would (95% of the time), during shutdown, get as far as a blank screen with all accessories powered off, but the pc still 'on' (power light on, and screen on).

By accident I discovered a way to complete the shutdown process without touching the PC. On 9 out of 10 occasions, I would merely need to turn off the desk lamp, or the overhead light, and the pc would flick itself off ?:|

It's not the plug point (same issue in two houses), so I'd assume it's the power supply. I haven't had the energy to track down a second supply and try that... I will do if no one here has any other suggestions. The novelty has worn off and it's time to sort this thing out.

Cheers,

Has to be in the PSU I believe.

Not certain what signal is given to the PSU at completion of the shutdown, but whatever it is the supply "blip" that you cause obviously completes it.
