Hmmm, I don't get the update, no matter what server I use. Wonder what version you are using?

Just worked alright for me using 1.3. When I've had trouble before I used another server/mirror. Aus. one works for me. Try again. (Great computer tip). Cheers. :D

Using ver 1.3, no update for me, I suspect this is an old update that you have not picked up before.

There are no new updates when I try. Could someone please tell me the date for the last update as I fear we are not getting the updates. Ours show the last one being 24 November 2003! Look under Help, About.

Thanks

I can't get it either, using normal update site and the Aus. EON site.
My last update was 12/8/04
Spybot Site says last update 10/8/04 but maybe thats just for the items it checks.

Curious.

Will keep checking occasionally though.

I was using Spybot 1.2 and received no definitions since 24 November 2003! I have just downloaded and installed Spybot 1.3 from Tucows and the definitions are now dated 2004-08-20. Surely we don't have to download a new program to get the updates?

... afraid so , 1.2 hasn't been supported with updates for a wee while ...

Oxie

Well, they should notify you then rather than saying there are no available updates.

those people who are experiencing "no updates available" may have downloaded a beta version of the definitions that was released a week or two ago.

Hi again

Tony I have version 1.3.0.12 created on Wednesday 13 May 2004 and I just start the Spybot S&D program and click on <check for updates> and the program is updated no problems.

Now I'm not saying I have the lastest version but am fairly sure it is.

Good to get something back from germans after all the grief they caused us in 1914 18 1939 45

Now you have me puzzled as well. The update does not report to me what server the update comes from.

Further reply. I did in fact get both a definitions and English help file earlier today. First time I have been offered updates to the English help file.

Now this is getting to be really interesting. I thought I was going to Spybot ( which says 11 Aug) and will now have a look at Major Geeks.
What fun ...

I just got an update
Checked last night as I usually do but nothing was nothing available.
Checked again when I saw this thread and just picked up new detection rules and english help file from the safer-networking #1 Europe mirror both for 20-08-04

And if you want REALLY INTERESTING Norton antivirus 2004 picked up two diallers and two trojans in my files last night. Whats REALLY INTERESTING about it is that the offending files have been sitting on my drive since OCT 2003.
Before anyone comments NO I didn't change the sweep settings, it's updated twice a week etc. Hmm and Spybot missed them as well.

Go figure!
Can't trust the free ones not the paid ones so it seems.

We have a splendid puzzle. Help, everyone !@!

Have you considered if these offending files have been resident on a partition for roughly ten months and have not actually caused harm then these files may not actually contain viruses or trojans. False positives maybe.

Two were executables, except I have never executed them.
Well I did last night , both shot dead, then hung drawn and quartered.

False positives, who knows I wasn't running them to find out!

Tony:
I"ve no idea if this is any help, but in case the single malt doesn't help with your mystification...
I was mystified briefly by my update info, but it seems to have fixed itself.
I don't know why/how - but here's what I did.
(I don't bother with mirrors etc unless I can't get results from the programme itself.)
When I clicked on Search for Updates, it offered me Detection Rules & English Help, both of which I ticked. Download came immediately.
There seemed to be no SetUp next, so I checked my version info & found 8th August or was it 11th? Forgotten, but obviously not 20th.
Assuming the download hadn't worked/finished, I asked it to Show Log. They were both there, but listed as Zip, which previous downloads weren't.
I tried Check for Updates again. It said none newer available. I then decided something strange was happening, but got diverted by opening up a few segments of the Advanced version I hadn't explored before & reading their options.
A few minutes later, I checked my info & found the date had magically changed to the 20th August.
So I don't know why. There was no indication that anything was happening (unzipping?) in the interim.
But maybe you could try it this way..after the single malt and some infinity-checking?

Elephant
21-08-2004, 10:55 PM
Yep Laura. Just about the same as I did. No ZIP file no install option no nothing. Do have under help 2004-8-20

Good one!!! :-)

You're quite right about Spybot's own webpage info, Tony.
I see they haven't mentioned any updates since 10 August .

Can you blame him? After many years of unrequited love the fellow has done really well channelling his energies into Spybot. Let's not criticise him for a late notification people....

Finally !!! :O

After numerous attempts, and different download sites, I have actually downloaded English Help File 178kb and Updated Detections 401kb.

Spybot reading 2004-08-20

How? ;-)
Using EON and downloading English Help first, then getting out of spybot and going back in and downloading Updated Detections. What a pain!!!

Had the same performance last time I updated as well.

Hello all. I am now a member of the 20 Aug Club !
Uninstalled, and cleaned off all folders still remaining for Spybot. Restarted and went to Euro #1 and was told updates for definitions and English. Brought in Updates. Still showed older date. Switched prog off and restarted. Now have 20 Aug.
Pulled in English Help, and all seems to be well.
What a saga !
Cheers Tony

Yes finally I have managed it as well, I wonder if there is a preference for people on fast connections as opposed to dial up?

"After numerous attempts, and different download sites, I have actually downloaded English Help File 178kb and Updated Detections 401kb."

Laura
22-08-2004, 06:51 PM
Nope - no broadband preferences.
I'm only on DialUp with 98SE.
Was using Firefox, not IE, though...

zqwerty
22-08-2004, 06:56 PM
I have been using Firefox for the last two months in preference to MyIE2, but before that I used Firebird occasionally.

No problem with my updates, went through first time with no checksum error from the Europe server, usually use the OZ EON. Anyone who got three updates recently has download beta versions enabled in Advanced Mode otherwise there will only be two.

The Spybot forum is more likely to be up to date with announcements than the website if you want to confirm if there is anything available.
