Hello!

My name is Nick... I have had a couple of problems with my computer that were quite a bit serious.

To solve these all I did was Reinstall Windows (I did not reformat)

But there was a problem... Half way through the reinstallation of Windows X Professional my computer restarted *Frowns*

This caused a lot of problems. I had to restart the whole installation and it became a proper install, not a reinstall... now that i have fixed everything up, i have another problem...

My user accounts are very screwed. If i try to create a new user to log in, every time i log in it says the following message:

"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

This always happens, even after I have restarted the computer...

I have tried un ticking the "simple sharing" tab in the folder options to make me control the security of the folder for the user.

I have made all the security options identical to a user that does work...

(my dad did find a way to fix it and made the users we needed, but now its started the error again and i cannot create users, and I also cannot create a guest user)

but the problem still happens, i cannot access the new user i create and every time i try to go into the user it keeps creating folders in documents and settings (e.g. if i create a user called bob, it will create a folder called bob with the local settings and such in it and then if i try to access the bob user again it will create another folder called "computer name"/bob and then it will create a folder called "computer name"/bob001 after i try getting into the user again..... and so on and so on...

The whole reason why I want the users to be fixed is because everyone's user on the computer apart from myne has the autorun.inf file in a cd work, BUT myne, this may seem stupid but its really irritating when u put in a game cd and it comes up with the contents in the cd rather than the autorun.inf file in the cd. Notice this isn't the autplay feature for windows X, as for that works just fine, but the autrun.inf which loads programs in a cd does not work, and i have tried everything i can find on the internet. This means i have tried stuff in the registry and everything, but the only way to do it i was told is to recreate my user... but i cannot! *at this point I'm frustrated*

Please could anybody have a solution for this???

Many thanks

Nick

PS Under no circumstances can I reformat my computer, if I do, my dad will kill me!

Ni Nick and welcome to Press F1.

Have you seen this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812339) Microsoft article? It might solve your problem. Or this article can also help if you have forgotten the admin password and there was also [url=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318011]this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;321305) article which wasn't so helpful (for corrupt user accounts) but this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811151) article will help you transfer data from one user account to another.

Hope this helps

Andrew
