I added a PCI Network card to my system last night. XP reported that I had made considerable changes to my system and had to reactivate Windows!

Is a minor change considered plugging in a USB device, or maybe even putting a CD in the tray? I hate to think what would happen if I changed the hard drive or something - XP would have a meltdown lol.

What about all your other previous additions? Maybe you did just one too many? ;-)

The NIC does tend to have a higher ranking, but I have changed HDD, RAM, added PCI cards (not NIC's) and never needed to reactivate.

if i remeber correctly NIC's are the highest rated. however i have added and removed various NIC's from XP pc's without ever needing activation. winblows for ya.
