Suggest you check all your setting, IP addresses etc. Assume this is an AdHoc network?

ip's are in the correct range & yes adhoc networking is enabled both ways

You haven't got XP with SP2 on you? If you have it might be the firewall if enabled?

XP sp1

built in firewall is off

what firewalls are you useing ? some can block it even when they are off.

what tcp/ip settings are you useing ?
is netbios enabled on both pc's?

Zone Alarm pro on the 98
Zone alarm free on the xp

netbios is ticked but greyed out on 98
ive tried default
enable & disable on the XP

same tcp/ip settings as ethernet LAN

which works ok

W98 wireless card is a dicksmith usb wireless 802.11b
USB 1.1 Adaptor

XP is a inbuilt toshiba job
