View Full Version : Internet Conection Sharing

I have two computers connected by twisted cable ( worked great when both PCs used Win98). I have now installed Win XP on the client PC and would like to share the ADSL modem connection on the Host Win98 PC.
Can this be done and if so how?

try www.analogx.com and look thru their download section under network for 'proxy'......it makes connection sharing extremely simple and should work fine

Do you have an internal or external modem. If external, what brand and model, you may be able to let the modem/router do the job rather than adding extra software. If internal then the MS ICS way or an alternarive to that as drcspy advises is the way you must go.

I would advise you to use Microsofts ICS (Assuming your Win98 box is Win98SE or newer) as its pretty straight-forward and has the advantage of not requiring every app to be setup to use a proxy. If you're not running Win98 SE or newer on the PC that has the ADSL Modem, put it in your WinXP Box.

When setting up ICS, it'll set the IP Address of the Host/Gateway PC to From there you can set the client PC settings as:
192.168.0.XYZ (Anything other than 1) = IP Address = Subnet = Gateway = DNS 1

Give that a shot and see how you get on
