I just got a UV blacklight bulb for the light in my room (very cool) but can I get "sunburnt" or get cancer from this (not cool)?

You can get all sorts of visual effects by staring intently at the bulb when its switched on

The short answer is that no, you won't get cancer or anything.

I was reading up about this stuff just last week - the info is here (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/black-light.htm). Make sure you go on to read how tanning/sunburn (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/sunscreen.htm) works... ;)

...most especially the page about How Tanning Works, which has a box explaining UVA, UVB, and UVC - and that research is increasingly implicating UVA as a cause of skin cancer too.
