21-06-2004, 01:42 PM
Just came across a slashdot artcle here (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/20/1722240) and they report that Distrowatch.com was the first to notice it with this News Article (http://www.distrowatch.com/?newsid=01692#0)

Grab your copy of the 700mb ISO from the SuSE FTP Server (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1-personal-iso/)

This message came through on the Nzlug list earlier today:

And if you wait a day or two (at the max, I don't know what the mirroring time
is) you'll be able to grab it from the jetstreamgames realm-able ftp server:

SuSE looks really nice - I haven't used it since SuSE 8.0 and this was the first Linux distribution that I had used. It is rpm based and has this snazzy feature called YaST, which handles system settings, updating programs etc.

Bit about YaST (http://www.suse.de/en/private/products/suse_linux/prof/yast.html)

The latest version looks really polished - See here (http://www.suse.de/en/private/products/suse_linux/pers/kde.html). I am not sure how "feature-rich" SuSE personal edition is seeing it has only one installation CD, so I imagine the package list is not huge.

Novell is using SuSE as its distro to replace Windows in corporate environments (and doing a successful job as well!), so that should give you some indication of its ease of use.

You can grab a live-CD for SuSE 9.1 off the JSG server to have a look-see at it.

Besides, any distro which has that really cute green chameleon as a mascot must be good :D
