Does anyone no if there is a good free downloadable dvd player?. I've tried to watch some dvd's on my computer, XP home with media player 8 and media player 9 codec's installed, but keep getting an error message, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/windowsxp/dvdplay.aspx, saying that i have to buy a dvd decoder. Any idea's. Cheers Popa

Popa, not sure but, a wild guess that your locality codes on the DVD's are different from what your DVD unit is set for. If this is correct you can get around it. Or it could be that your DVD drivers and/or firmware need an upgrade/re-installation. Did the DVD unit not come with bundled software?

Looks like my wild guess was just that, a bit wild and off the mark popa. What make is your unit/player, they should have a decoder that you pay foe in the purchase price. Apparently some movies come with a bundled decoder, worth checking out. Anyway, heres some links to free DVD decoders, hope they help:

Link 1 (http://www.wordtally.com/free-dvd-decoder.htm)

Link 2 (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm)

And this Link (http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/howto-22.html) is a How To check if your DVD decoder is installed.

Thanks for the replys. My computer is a HP and the dvd rom drive make is the original that came with the system. I checked for installed codecs thru your link and it said i had none installed. So i'm currently downloading the standard k-lite pack thru your other link. Again, thanks.
