I wish to create an invoice template using Excel 2003 but encounter the following problems:

1. How do I generate an Invoice No. whenever the worksheet opens - this Invoice No. has to be in running order, e.g. the first invoice is 0001 and when I open the next invoice I want it to generate (automatically) the number as 0002, and so on.

2. I want to insert a static date in a cell. The Excel Help says that all I have to do is press Ctrl + . I did (pressing Ctrl and the + from the number pad keys) but unfortunately, nothing happens.

best not to reinvent the wheel. head over to www.acclaim.co.nz and do it properly. Turn off the cashbook in setup and you have a good invoicing system.

The instructions in Excel are to press CTRL + ;

That means press "CTRL" and at the same time press ";"

Do NOT press "+", thats not what it is telling you. The + indicates that you press the CTRL key as well as the ; key
