I have MS Office 2000 installed on my home computer running Win ME. Am I legally allowed to install it on my new Win XP Home Edition notebook, when it is still only for my personal use? And will Office 2000 run on XP Home? Thanks.

Yes it will run, but no, you legally are not allowed to install it on more than 1 PC. Although apparently there is a clause in a licence which lets you install software on one PC, and one laptop, provided they are both yours (someone else might want to clarify this).

office2k requires activation so you can ask MS when you go to activate it :)

Ah, you are wrong there. MS Office 200 no longer requires activiation. We were recently re-installing ours, we rang up microsoft about activation, and they said it is no longer needed as of sometime last year I think. Our clock was 2 years out or something, which is why it wanted us to activate. But, switching it to the correct time fixed it.

Read the EULA.

Full versions of Office will allow a second installation on your portable computer.

Not so for OEM though

Thanks for all the replies. I have a full version of Office 2000 so I will go ahead with the installation.
