View Full Version : MS Updates - where do they hide on my PC?

I am running Windows XP Professional.

For the last few days, an MS update (#819696) has automatically downloaded onto my PC. At the prompt, I have clicked "install".

Is it normal to receive the same (?) update each day, or am I missing something here?

Where on my PC are these update files stored?

I have tried to locate them to compare file size and date stamp :(

i think that there must be a problem with the install of that update, you should only get each one once.

as for where the files go, no one knows :-)
the fiels go into the OS and any temp files are removed, there are no install files left after install.

The location of ms updates are C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate
you have to have show hidden files and folders checked in windows explorer tools/view
Also look in C:\WINDOWS the folders named like this are updates.

You'll only have the original updates if you downloaded them for the corporate update site and they won't be hidden, they'll be where you put them.
$Uninstall folders are more likely for putting things back to old condition.

Hi Zippity
You seem to have a similar problem to mine. Have a look at this thread

I think that if you go to the Windows Update webpage and click on update history (or something like that) you will get a list of all updates which have been installed on your PC.

And guess what?

MS wants me to load IE onto my PC.

Stuff them!! This PC works sweet without IE or OE :):):)
