Boot.ini is a simple text file. Just copy the text from the first one and write it in the 2nd!

uh, by plug a fan into a power box, what do you mean?

Do you mean plug a 12v fan directly into the mains?

Or a deskfan needs a new socket plug?

hmmmm... well i have a multivoltage adapter and i took the end off and run my 12v fan straight off it.

Oh and make a boot disk in using your other computer.

1)What I ment about the PSU is I got a new one but I don't need it so I want to use it to power some 12V fans (blowing on to laptop) But theres no "on" and Off" button like the old PSU's, it just plugs into the mother board so how do I hot wire it? *because theres no On or OFF on it*

2)Could you plz tell me more on the DOS commands and what boot disk's I need

ok here's what I would do.

1) Find the boot.ini in the working comp.

2) copy down (or print is prob easier) it out.

3) boot the other not working comp in dos

4) type "edit"

5) type out the boot.ini that you just printed out.

6) save it in the boot.ini location (you may want to backup the current boot.ini first, i.e. save it as boot2.ini)

7) restart!

If they have a boot.ini file it will probably be W2k or XP. If so you will need to boot from the CD and use recovery console and copy the other boot.ini from the floppy. DOS will not work if it is NTFS

What you could also try is copying the Windows core boot files onto a disk... the files are:

BOOTSECT.DOS (only if you have a dual boot PC)

From there it will show up an O/S Choice menu and you can boot into WinXP from there (hopefully!) and restore your boot.ini file.
