i'm considering taking out my floppy drive and putting it in the older computer in favour of a 3.5inch card reader. the question is, can my motherboard handle it, and how well will it perform? i'm considering getting the $39 DSE XH8165. it claims to have usb2.0 support, so does that mean it has a usb port, or connect by usb? i have a picture of my mobo- courtesy of fresh diagnose. http://sal.neoburn.net/imagef1/files/mobo.jpg

thanks :)

The card reader needs a motherboard (or internal USB card?) to connect to.
They actually need two USB 2 connections, one for the reader slots and one to pass through to the front USB socket.

They need USB 2 to be able to give USB 2 performance. They do not create a USB 2 port, only utilise two of them. Probably would work but slower with USB 1.1 connection, but I cannot confirm that.

However, they work very well, I have one in my second 3.5" bay

You mobo info does not show if you have USB 2.

USB1.

If the card reader works with USB1, it will be at USB1 speed.

That goes for the front port as well.
