The biggest problem is staying online. You will have to turn ON your firewall --From your Windows Start menu, run the Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double-click "Networking and Internet Connections", and then click "Network Connections".
--Right-click the connection on which you would like to enable the firewall, and then click "Properties". The connection you choose should be the one that you use to get access to the Internet.
--On the Advanced tab, click the box to select the option to “Protect my computer or network”. Now your Windows XP firewall is enabled. If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, you should enable a 3rd Party firewall product.

Now go online and download fix and patch. May I suggest you use a program called Stinger, which also cleans any variants of it, from here (http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe).

Patch XP[/url and [url=http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/1/f/01fdd40f-efc5-433d-8ad2-b4b9d42049d5/windows2000-kb823980-x86-enu.exe]Win 2000 (http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/b/98bcfad8-afbc-458f-aaee-b7a52a983f01/windowsxp-kb823980-x86-enu.exe) as it affects both Windows versions.

Are you using Zone Alarm as your fire wall?? I had the same problem when I got a new desktop computer running XP and then the same thing happened when I got my laptop. Discovered it was my fire wall...Zone Alarm...not compatible with XP. Used sygate instead and never had any problems with either computers since.

Sorry. Misunderstood what you were saying, I was just getting disconnected, the computer wasn't shutting down.
