View Full Version : Starting Safe Mode in Win XP

I have just changed from Win 98 to Win XP. I cannot find how to start X.P. in Safe Mode. Help says : Go to start, Click "Shut Down" Does it mean "Click, Turn Off Computer"?. Next it says Click Shut down in drop down menu. There is no drop down menu.

In Win 98 I just clicked Start, whilst tapping Ctrl and I could get to Safe Mode.

Please help.

To get into Safe Mode if the computer is already on choose Restart and when it begins to boot up again tap the appropriate key (F8 or F12, etc depending on your computer model).

Boot off the CD and use Recovery Console. You can even install it giving you a second boot option.

Its always hit and miss for me starting into safe mode by "pressing the button at start up"

I prefer this way...only works for XP (I think)
Start --> Run
Type in MSCONFIG then enter
find the tab called boot.ini
Put a tick in /safeboot then OK
Restart your computer and it works everytime. No buttons to push!
Once you have done the business in safe mode just take out the tick!
