Hi

i have lost my Book dictionary again, (must be packed ) and was wondering what other people use (if they worry about spelling) i do a spell check but when researching things i like to know the meanings.

can anyone recomend a good online dictionary, doesnt have to be a downloaded one just a free access one. i did a search on pf1 but only found one to download.
would like some feedback please.
i know Goddie use's one to catch us out lots ! Goddie???

and Billy T must use some for his WFTWE..

help?
my spelling is atrocious at the best of times, oh and if it tells you about the word all the better than just spelling it, as the one i have used in the past.

muchly appreciated.

There are heaps of them out there, but here are two good ones:

Ask Oxford (http://www.askoxford.com/)

Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/)

A tip to quick find the correct spelling of a word, is to stick it into the search box of Google - it will often offer the correct spelling of the word (if you are not too far out with it), but it will use the american spelling.

Hey beetle,

www.dictionary.com would be the only one I know of which can be used as a thesaurus as well so you can complete them crosswords too.

Although that site should have links to other sites that do similar things.

Hope this helps,

There is an extension for Firefox where all you have to do is highlight a word, right click it and select " dictionary search",this opens up www.dictionary.com in a seperate tab displaying the results of your query.

One site that is very useful if you are looking for alternatives words or phrases to use is The Free Dictionary (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/).

I have WordWeb installed. It came on a PC World cd a few months ago. Very useful for spelling, meanings, and as a thesaurus for alternative and similar words. Recommended.
