does anyone know where i can get schematics for modems, particularly those built around a Rockwell chipset, 56k, and ISA bus connection.

I dont like your chaces of get that info for free and with of signing a NDA

There would be data application sheets but probably not now available as the chips are too old.

These application sheets are put out by the chip makers to show "recommended use" of the chips. Actual use will differ but thats as near as you would get without signing a NDA and having a valid reason to know in the view of the modem maker. Its called Intellectual Property and they get very protective.

Particularly as an ISA modem has its own on-board processor, and you would need to know what the firmware was doing to be able to determine how the hardware was controlled.

Programmable Logic chip connections are not helpful on their own.
