HI,I have win98SE on an ACER laptop-IE6-& it has problems on booting up.The fault finding I have done says I should Reinstall.Would I lose my Nortons Virus program.Any other problems I might have??.cheers rdee

The best way I have found is to boot up the laptop with a DOS boot disk and go to C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\cabs. run setup.exe and this will do a repair install. You should not lose any settings or apps. It sounds like its getting terminal so I guess you have very little to loose

your restore CD may have a function, restore without reformat. it'll reinstall windows, but keep all else

apart from any programs that have been installed, as the folders are there but the registry keys are gone.

if it's a driver problem you could delete the enum key in the registry and do a reboot.

I agree with the folders/cabs but use the /is switch.
