i get "email cannot be delivered to address" messages when I didn't send anything there, they are ficticious email addresses. It's almost like there's a little programme come onto my computer that's cobbling together bits of addresses and sending out spurious email possibly with viruses or such in them.

Have you got an up to date antivirus software program running? A recent worm had this pattern with the undeliverable email messages.

Scan your system with one of these free online scanners:
Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)
Symantec (http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&close_parent=true&plfid=00&pkj=KTMELSIVFWMFKPXKBQW).

If you don't have any antivirus software, download and install AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php) - it is free but remember to keep it updated.

If you run up to date virus scanning software, then don't get concerned.

Its possible/probable that someone else is infected, and they happen to have your email address in their address book. A virus will be using that as a ficticious "from" address.

Viruses that do this do not use your normal email program, so there is no visible record of the emails having been sent. As long as your antivirus software is up to date and working, its unlikely to be you.

If you are not running anyantivirus program, or don't update it at least weekly, then of course it could be you...

Once again someone who uses O or OE has your address and it is a virus on their PC that is doing it. Lately I have posted several times about this.
