A guy I know in Christchurch seems to have contracted mydoom. Was supposed to be updating AV regularly but stopped when someone at the office in Auckland left and stopped emailing him the updates.
He has an infected taskman.exe on a Win98 machine. Although I think there is a compelte copy of the Windows install on the machine, he just doesn't have the skills to boot to DOS and copy it across.
I need to try to find someone who can do it, and wouldn't mind doing other odd jobs for him now and again. Can charge properly for time (say $80-100 per hour plus gst).
Would prefer someone who does this sort of thing for a living. Not a big customer, but it's a bit of work.
I look forward to hearing suggestions.

Norton is crippling the thing in Windows, keeps detecting and reacting but can't delete or repair. Needs to be in Dos. Could post a disk with the taskman.exe on it with a bat file I guess.
Will try the ones from Megaman and see what I can suss out.

I would recommend PC Service Center in Colombo St, never had any problems with them, with about 6 years use out of them.

I had to do this very thing the day mydoom came out. I suspected it was a virus when it arrived in my inbox but mistakenly figured my antivirus would pick it up (and I was curious to see what it was), stupid move. Anyway, Nortons had not created a removal tool at the time so I had to remove it manually. I believe Symantec has created a removal tool which automates the process.

Try: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxMydoom.exe

Note: The infected taskmon.exe is a copy should only be infected in the Windows\System folder this is not the legitimate taskmon in the c:\Windows folder. So you can safely delete the infected file from c:\windows\system and you do not have to reinstall windows.

BTW I am based in Christchurch.
