Lost and Found file report??????

this is way off topic sorry folks,

been waiting a lot recently for people on pf1 to catch up with them about some things, but find some have gone or are on holiday?

had even noticed and done some checking that other regular peoples have not been seen for a considerable time????

and also a point to note that Chat has been very quiet again over the holidays even on the regular get together nights ????

are people who were regulars become lurkers now or just not here at all anymore?

has anyone noticed other missing in action people????
anyone know who is missing? or why?

anybody out there????

I miss you people.

and i m glad the rest of you are still here..... :)

I am only having a shot in the dark here, but I think what you will find is people now days are either not having any computer problems or there have just been too busy with other thing like life, work etc....

Or have just lost instead in Pf1 for many reason I guess, e.g. the forum having lot of problems with speed etc... And it does take a bit of time out of your day answering question every day and you some times you just loss instead in doing it.

That is the way the internet works really, people come & people go, site get busy & site slow down, and I am also guessing a few people are still on holiday etc...

I know of two of the old regular e.g. sal & clueless has had problems in some form.

I had noticed the absence of various regulars too Beetle.

I think Stu is right - we all come and go for various reasons. I enjoy PF1 but it was rather interrupting my day and I've throttled back my browsing
lately. Alas enthusiasms wax and wane.

But you cannot leave Beetle - you are a permanent part of the show. ;)

yeah W001 i feel lately ive been too busy being busy to enjoy smelling the rose's as it were.

i dont have time to think let alone, have a life, my children have basically done nothing over the holidays, which is sad, as generally we are always out and about in previous years, work has got in the way again and again.......

i am so busy at the moment running myself loopy here at the motel, we have carpet being laid soon, painters coming back and the kidlets starting school/ kindy, and then me back at school / work / kindy that i dont have time to enjoy doing nothing any more???? working on auto pilot it seems.

i am scared witless at the idea im back at school, and majorly worried my grades will go down, due to how busy we have become here at the motel.

why is it we push ourselves so hard that we dont sit back and enjoy the ride anymore???? we are constantly driving ourselves to exhaustion?
or we cannot be nice with out haveing a complaint about something else going on in our lives?

i dont mean to sound morbid but life seems to be passing me by and im missing it? i miss being me, and i miss my family.

but i do love being here on pf1.

I wonder if after the december giveaway incident, people with 500+ posts decided to make themselves a new username in the event that a future competition were to arrise, so they have extra chances?

Beetle,
I know that Chilling_Silently has gone for a few days,
(parachuting)
I don't know where everybody else is (may be at my forum (joking))

Well, I'm still around, but I have tried for years to mow the grass in ever decreasing circles, and have never yet been able to disappear at the vanishing point :)

The other main point Stu mentioned is that, (with the exception of Bloggsy :D ), XP doesnt give the same problems as Win9x. There has been a noticeable drop off in OS problems, though networking, modems, and peripherals seem to have their usual quirks.

Hi Beetle - Just the holidays. Heaps of children, grandchildren and passing friends. In this case, the spare bedroom where the system resides seems to have been occupied by visitors since mid-December, denying me the time to sit and browse. Good luck with the studies. Been there, done that, and years later wondered whether the time might have been better spent with the kids before they left to start the whole cycle again.

beetle, you really need a holiday I think.

Have you thought about "getting away from it all", perhaps staying in a Motel for a week? ....

Rumour has it there is a good one in the Wanganui area .... ?

mmmm well i've backed off because back in the day I was at university, so i had a whole lot of time on my hands. Now i'm working I don't have the time to check the forum as much. I do check regulary but don't speak as much, there are new-comers that have come through and are doing a good job.
I also agree with Terry in regards to the type of errors people are now having, XP has taken a lot of the fun out of that :-)

Could I add that PressF1 has become very busy, and it is almost impossible to keep up with all of the threads (unless one spares time for only breathing and basic bodily functions).
It has got to the point where various items have been well addressed and adding a flippant comment or something doesn't really add to it and just annoys people who get emails just to read something silly (like this posting now, some irony in that).
When is the chatf1 gathering time? I should pop in but often forget and am not late enough for most.
robo.

Just a note of encouragement for Beetle. You clearly have a busy life. I surmise that you fill a pivotal role for your family. This leads you to putting all of your energy into helping other people without any thought for your self. It's called being a "mother and wife".

I also suggest that if you did have lots of spare time you would not enjoy it. You'd be bored. We all need to be needed and to have a focus for our lives.

For you, there is your family, the motel, and your own further education. That is a lot to cope with so it is a matter of balance. Encourage the children to help you. Young children enjoy being given responsibility and it is healthy for them.

Try and make some quiet time for yourself each day - no phone, demands, etc. Read a book, put music on - even ironing can be peaceful if there are no distractions.

Also remember - life would be boring and empty without all the people and work. You just need a little more balance - and appreciation.

Cheers
Winston

W001, you make my day, i know life would be quiet and boring without all of this stuff, but in saying that i would like to slow down just a little.
My stress levels must be getting high, and i know this because i get more migranes when that happens......

at the moment im wading through an enormous amount of paper work, boxes, and general crap in preparation for removal due to new carpet going down.....no such thing as an easy life here. and so everything has to come out, and then back in....... where it was and hopefully tidyier....:D

and ironing is peaceful the only problem there W001 is we do a lot of those a day.... at least 40 a day at times...... plus all other stuff....

im better off than some people but just wish life would run at a slightly slower pace, it also seems my time is between the hour or 10 pm to 7am, and i do sleep some,

thanxs all, this was not intended to be a post about me, due to the fact i try to steer away from waffle now, but was aimed at people not here any more, some must have a good holiday then, some just may not come back or some have new names????

ok spot ya later, work to do and a desk to find under this mess.:D

How on earth did this thread spring past me?!

I'll personally say, that I reckon the amount of technical postings hasn't wavered [too] much, but it seems there are less off topic posts compared to, say, the easter holidays last year (I don't have evidence to back that up, I'm just running off my memory).

And I wasn't able to contribute much on the forum recently, as I was off in the semi-wilderness (oh all right, Whananaki) Jan 17-21, had to visit school on the 22, didn't do much on the 23, went to Rotorua 24-25, and now it should be back to normal - school starts tomorrow :_|

diffenitly difficult to keep up with so muc going on here at PF1.

but since this post a few of the ones i have not seen for a while have surfaced.

we seem also to have got into an amazing amount of multiple postings revolving around certain threads and being female, i not sure what the division would be male - female ratio on PF1 any one hazard a guess?
Chat seems to be suspended a little at moment due to so many people away and so busy which hopefully will pop back into life in the future.

life goes on

If you want an estimate based on memory and a self-selecting test I did here (and elsewhere, so it is a little off) half way through last year, it might be about 10 females for 25 males.

But that's probably active users; considering the user count is over 8000 (I think), I don't really recall seeing over 2300 female personalities around here.

Well, I went over to australia for 2 months. Had a great time. Went to the Gold Coast stayed in expensive resort for a week, went to dreamworld twice and movieworld and went shopping etc. Basically spoiled myself haha.

Then went over to Perth for 6weeks staying with a friend and went jetskiing every weekend on like the fastest jetski you can buy (122km/hr). Went to the casino a bit and ripped the casino off a few times. Had Christmas down in Albany, a small town south of Perth and went koonaking, fishing and 4wheel driving.

At new years eve we jumped the 3m fence into Gloucster Park cos all the tickets were sold out. (Thats the big horse racing track in W.A.). They had a big fireworks display on at midnight, wicked.

Made some new friends for life and saw lots of movies like LOTR and Welcome to the Jungle and did random entertainment things, as you do. It was very hot so we went swimming a lot.

Also learned how to surf on a surf tour and went surfing a few times. Went skydiving way out at a place called York, an hour away from perth. 14000ft jump - awsome stuff. Got the $100 video to prove it!

Went to margaret river, one of the top 5 surf spots in the world, a great little town known for its wineries and caves as well. We didn't see much surf but saw a few topless chicks at the beach. :O Apparently the surf is best in the winter.

Went over to Rottnest Island, an island just off the coast of perth. Went snorkelling in the open water for the first time, so cool.

Then headed back to Auckland where I stayed with an old friend from kindergarten and we had kept in touch all these years. We went to devenport for the views on the top of the mountain and went to mission bay for a bike ride. Then we headed on down to Hamilton for Parachute 04, the big 3day concert. It is the biggest Christian concert in the world outside the U.S., 25000 people. Everyone stays in tents for the 3days, great fun. Newsboys put on one hell of a performance!

Then stayed monday in a nice motel and saw the Torque movie. Me and my mate tried seeing that on the megascreen in auckland (old name imax) but the seating was bad. The person we were talking about it to pronounced the movie "tour- kew". We had a good laugh about it - go back to school!!

Anyway, thats where I've been. Can anyone else beat my holiday? I blew like 7 & 1/2 grand hehehe.

Hi PoWa Great trip. Any time you want to repeat the drop - "Went skydiving way out at a place called York, an hour away from perth. 14000ft jump - awsome stuff", call in at Motueka airport. We shouted my wife a tandem parachute jump for her 65th. From 4,000 metres. She love it and almost daily looks skyward and says something like "There's my plane". She's keen to do it again, but it cost about ten days pension so we'll perhaps make it on her 70th.

Beetle struck again,
i am safe to go nowhere.

while at my sons Kindy today he was on the kindy puter while i was watching, and it majorly froze, and ended up being shut down and rebooted, twice due to it not responding the first time......

so my electric personality has resurfaced again. :D

and as far as i am aware they have had no problems with it up till now....lolololol
but it does run Win 98, that could explain things.

:p

and i did not touch the stupid thing, entirely not my fault......

PoWa said "and went koonaking, (...)"

Koonaking?

PoWa
29-01-2004, 05:18 PM
Whoops, yea koonaking is catching miniature freshwater crayfish/lobster things...also called yabbies etc. You throw in the net with a dead fish in it, and they'll crawl into the net to get the fish and then you pull it out of the water real fast. You have to pick them up behind the head cos they have big pincers.

Good fun. Some people had them on the barbeque but mostly we used them as live bait to catch some brim (white fish) that lives in the river.

Murray P
29-01-2004, 05:39 PM
So, PoWa, let me get this right. You use a fish to catch a Koonak then you use the Koonak to catch another fish. Do you repeat the cycle again. Do you get to eat anything?

;) just kidding, just envious.

Cheers Murray P

Thanks - they're called koura here, and some people are now growing them commercially. We used to catch them in the creek where I lived. Yummy...

lmao! :^O :^O seems like a weird cycle ay! Nah we ate the fish we caught actually. Tasted quite good hehehe. We used a smallish fish that we bought then cut them open so the koonaks could smell the food.

One day we caught like 50+ and then it was christmas so we didn't get to use them for anything, then we forgot about them for another few days. By this stage they were dying off, and then a few more days they were all dead and stinking out the place. On the day we left someone threw them all onto the garden - hopefully the owners of the house won't notice 50 dead things killing off the plants nearby ;\

Soo many different names aye. Koonaks/yabbies/marin/koura.... lol
