I am looking for a good program (preferably freeware) that will tell me exactly what I have in my box.
Not si-soft Sandra or the ones off cover disks.
I want an up to date one that will recognise things like SATA drives and external modems and motherboards.
I don't want one that says Motherboard "Make unknown" It's a gigabyte.
Or one that says "Internal Generic win modem" . It's external D-Link.
Or one that says "No hard disk found" I have sata.
Any suggestions?

AIDA32 should do the trick. www.aida32.hu

Aida32 is the one that can't even identify my motherboard.

So you bought something blind not knowing what you were buying???

Please enter the real world :)

Just think how many hundreds of M/B manufacturers there are each with dozens of motherboard types. Then add on all the other manufacturers of other components, and just think of the work involved for someone to get all this info and put it into a sysinfo program and keep it updated. Then supply it free of charge.

You can try the net update facility in Aida, but other than that be very thankful for small mercies, else go back to who you bought it from and ask.

Aida identifies my Gigabyte m/b and all other components correctly.

Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID 09/23/2003-nVidia-nForce-6A61BG0EC-00
Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-7N400-L

There are also links provided to the Bios Update site. Maybe if you visit the Gigabyte web page there may be a Bios update that fixes any issues with the m/b not identifying itself?

Terry, I know exactly what m/b I have. I even have a hand book and map of the whole setup. My computer was made to order.
I merely asked for help in finding a sysinfo program.
And I would suggest that such a program would identify m/bs from the board itself, not from some built in database.

OK, fair enough, but you underestimate the amount of work involved in keeping these type of programs upto date, otherwise I could still be using Syscheck from say 1995; Quote from Aida:
