Bugger , I see jv16 power tools does not work after the new year. If you change the date on the pc to last year the program works again. Switch back to 2004 You get message informing you that it seems you are using old version of program and should visit jv16 for newer version. Thats good, but you have to buy the next version.

I rather liked jv16 reg cleaner , I felt it did a very good job with no ill effects.

Apart from Toni-arts Easycleaner ,is there any other reg tools out there thats good?

Or maybe buying jvc16 next version is not so bad, I guess I got very used to using free stuff from the net.

Cheers and Happy New Years to all, John.

Try this download (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1680) which is jv16 1.3 which should be OK.

Also the same guy that made that powertools program also made a standalone reg cleaner(regcleaner4.3)He stopped develpment on as powertools started to get populer but i always found powertools a waste of space and preferred the standalone reg-cleaner.

Registry First Aid does a really good job of Registry cleaning, one of the best, but it does cost US$21. I found it worth the money.

Another shareware worth the money is System Mechanic, but it's not that cheap.

If you go here, it is the original regcleaner - I hope. Google has archived files. http://www.pcmedixwebs.com/regclean.htm

Don't forget EasyCleaner ( http://www.toniarts.com )

HI guys,

Thanks for input , I check the options out.
Don't you hate it when you are happy with what you've got but they take it away from ya.

With thanks John.

I have the last of the good free version and it is still working fine John.
If you are interested, i can see if I can find a download site for you.

01-01-2004, 10:44 PM
Now that annoying. Thats the kind of stunt microsoft would pull. ;-)

Hey John D you don't use DirectConnect do you. Cos I like jv16 too and was wondering if I could leeeeech it off you.

I can't find the registry entries for jv16 so I can't hack it and the exe(s) have been compressed with an exe compressor so I can't crack it!

Buga eh?

Hamstar, download the last free jv16 from here (http://www.pricelessware.org/2003/PL2003SYSTEMUTILITIES.htm#J109)

Thanks Pheonix,

I'm unsure weather it will work in 2004 but will give it a go.

If it doesn't Hamster ,I'll send the version I've got to you.

Going away for three days, be back Monday.

Cheers John.

Cheers guys.

Theres some other useful stuff on that site too Phoenix ;-)

I have just tried my jv16 power tools v1.3 and it doesnt work either.

02-01-2004, 01:25 PM
I was under the impression that it was only the 1.4 versions that had the time restriction. If all else fails, I have my copy and it is working fine (just checked again sparky. Also checked time/date). You guy's are making me paranoid now. I use XP, maybe that is a factor?
Can dump it somewhere for download I guess.

02-01-2004, 01:38 PM
Uninstalled the version I had (1.3) used system mechanic to clean registry, downloaded from system utilities.com, reinstalled, same message.

Sorry, I dont work now. Please buy me.

Any other thoughts.

This has been said earlier in this thread but if you put your clock back the tools start working again. 1987 was an identical year to 2004. Just put clock back use tool then move clock forward again. I am going to leave my comp on 1987 an see what happens over a period of time, whether other unexpected problems emerge with other programs.

02-01-2004, 04:04 PM
Moved the clock back to 1987 and it ran ok.
Just have to remember next time I use jv16 what year to put it back to.

02-01-2004, 10:28 PM
Are you going to dump it somewhere for download phoenix?

03-01-2004, 10:11 PM
If you want to download this version, it is here (http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~t.hodder/jv16pt_up_setup.exe)

03-01-2004, 10:33 PM
I have found another utility that shows a lot of promise but haven't tried it on a number of PC's yet. Worth a try/look though from here (http://www.webattack.com/get/regseeker.html)

04-01-2004, 10:07 AM
Thanks Pheonix,
This version you have supplied seems to work fine with no time problems.

04-01-2004, 12:54 PM
Hi zqwerty,
Not quite sure how you came to the conclusion that 2004 is identical to 1987 as this year is a Leap Year falling every 4 years on an even year & 1987 wasn't.
Maybe they were identical until Feb 28, or after that date.

04-01-2004, 01:22 PM
You are certainly right about the leap year and I did not think of anything just took info from here:

I have needed to have identical years before for problems in the past like old video players only set to run to 2001 etc.

Perhaps I have misunderstood this site. Search in the page for 2004 if you cannot find it. Post back so that I know what I have misunderstood, PLEASE.

04-01-2004, 03:52 PM
Hi zqwerty,
I had a look at that site & it is a bit beyond me I think. I blame the weather for making it hard to concentrate.

So I'm not the only one that has an older video that needs to be set to somewhere in the past.

04-01-2004, 03:52 PM
Thanks Pheonix,
Your jv16 download from Slingshot worked a treat.

04-01-2004, 03:58 PM
Hi again Pheonix,
I couldnt believe it.
Cleaned the registry with my 2 favourite cleaners, namely: System Mechanic and RegScrubXP, then run the Registry Cleaner on Reg Seeker.
Reg Seeker found another 854 obselete items. 854

I had a quick look at the items and they did all appear to be old stuff, so deleted the lot. (after making a backup just in case)
So far, no problems.
Thanks for that great proggie.

Hi Pheonix,

The link to the 1.3 version seems to be the last working version alright.
Just came back from couple days away and installed that version and I'am
a happy jv16 user again.

Thanks for the link,Cheers

With thanks John.

05-01-2004, 10:15 AM
Metla presume you mean since you used the RegSeeker program. Can you please say what Apps as I have used the program with no faults so far but I do have a desktop full, and I mean full, of Apps and I don't want to try every one.
Thanks Robert.

05-01-2004, 10:33 AM
It disabled winrar, and deleted a couple reg-entries i had manually adjusted.

There might have been more but i applied the back-up the program generated when i hit the first couple of glitches.

Bit of fine tuning as far as exclusions go and i doubt i will have any more problems with it.

05-01-2004, 12:11 PM
So far I have found that Norton Utilities now wants to renew its Rescue Disk Set, when I try, it says there has been an error and will do a new back-up of the registry. Note this is not an error in the registry it is an error that Norton can no longer use the old rescue set and must start a new one. I will try Win RAR.

Maybe it's deciding that unregistered shareware shouldn't be there. :D

05-01-2004, 06:09 PM
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't think so, WinRar seems OK.

05-01-2004, 06:11 PM
Regseeker stopped my Paint Shop Pro.
I'll have to apply my backup then check my exclusion list.
Good finding metla.
