View Full Version : Windows 2000 wont remember preferences for network Printer

At work we have a Windows XP Pro PC that's sharing a printer over the LAN. We have a Windows ME PC that uses it fine, but on a specific Windows 2000 PC (We only have one PC with Win2K Pro) it wont remember the printer preference within a program.

This can become very confusing for customers who change the Printer to Color and expect it to stay Color as long as that application is open.

....It doesnt :-(

Its a HP 5550 Deskjet that's being shared. Its fine on two other PC's on the LAN. Ive re-installed the latest driver on ALL the PC's, and that makes no difference.

Any ideas?

I had a similar problem, the only way I could fix it was to change the printer properties on the actual machine the printer was connected to, something I suppose wouldn't be very applicable to you in your situation.

I'd also be interested to know if there is an easier fix for this problem

On the XP Pro PC that has the printer attached, check the security settings of the printer and make sure that the user on the Win2k PC has full permissions to manage printer etc.

Forgot to say that you may need to disable Simple File Sharing for the security tab to show up.

Yep, the User is an Administrator on both PC's.

Its the last day of work, so if I cant get it sorted by 4pm, I'll dig this thread up around Jan 12th :-)

Any other ideas?
