Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix it? Ive cleared the Cache/Cookies, but I get this:

Windows Update Error

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

Send error number to Microsoft (0x8007001F)
Note This sends error information but does not create a support incident; you may or may not receive a response.

Running Win98SE with IE6 SP1.

...Its broken good :-(

This is caused by a firewall blocking ActiveX & referrer. If running a firewall disable it when doing windows updates.
Also insure your security setting is at meduim.

Nup, no firewall either... Aside from the router that is.

It was working last week fine..?

Ive just checked:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

There's nothing about the error Im getting?

Google's not been much help so far either :-(

*Sigh*

I get the same error on both Windows 98 and XP... I'd attribute it to putting my security settings on custom (prompt for everything, just about), and my firewalls... but I daren't disable them because I don't trust MS.

But the settings on this box are just stock Medium settings, and Im the network Admin, so I'd know if there was a Firewall (There should be one, only the Boss doesnt want one).

Any other suggestions?

Have you tried the site that I suggested

I went through that entire site myself, and nothing worked...

However, I noticed an entry in iuident.txt under the [IUPingSever] category, and I'm wondering if part of the process needs to ping the server specified. I've been unable to ping anything, and I can only narrow it down to my ISPs configuration.

Well well...

I tried going to https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com instead of http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and it works!

Weird, but I think I might change the iuident.txt file so that the https server is chosen before the http one.

That has been mentioned on this forum a few times now (to use https instead of http). Here (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=39723) is one page that mentions it.
