Hi People [Robo if you're reading]
I have a toshiba laptop running win98se , it has a usb port but I have to have the system up and running [drivers all loaded etc] before I can plug my usb connection eg: interface to cellphone or cameras etc. If I boot up with connections in it wont recognise them.
Any ideas?
Rgds Hugh

Have you tried plugging in the devices when windows is running?

Yeah, thats the only time I can use usb.
If, for example, I unplug my cell phone, plug in my camera, it says camera not present, and vice-versa with phone.
If I pull out connection, reboot, wait till its running and plug in it will accept the device?>
strange eh?

It's probably one of those things. ;-)

USB is a new protocol. It takes a while (usually until just before the protocol is obsolete) for all those making hardware and software to the standard to (a) understand the words, (b) implement the stuff correctly.

You'll probably find that you can unplug and unplug the gear if you have started up with it plugged in. It's the change that wakes the system up, and it's all designed to be hotplugged, so it won't do any damage.
