Is the cable installed backwards, or is it damaged? Not plugged in properly?

All factors which might need checking (you might have done it already though).

Hi rmcb!

Have you tried the cable on another IDE channel?
Also try to get your BIOS to auto-detect the drive. Have ytou updtaed your BIOS?

Hope this helps!

In the short term I'd stay away from flashing the BIOS.

The bios is set to auto detect ide1&2, master and slave.
The cable has a tab on it so it can't be plugged into the m/b the wrong way, and red stripe nearest power connector on hdd.
Same problem occurs on ide channel 2.
The hdd is detected by bios as the correct model number etc.
I have swapped the cable end for end etc.
Perhaps a jumper on the hdd???
I have not flashed the bios.

I'm assuming that the PC still boots and that you just get the message. If so go out and buy another cable but get one of the rounded ones. You get a better airflow. I also notice it is a 10Gig HD which may not support it. They came out before the 80pin cables.
