I am running winxp prof sp1 on an amd 2ooo with 1gb ram.
Many applications are aborting with a message that memory referenced at a particular location cannot be either read or written.
This often occurs when the program is closing, which is not such a problem as no harm seems to be done, however it is also happening when some programs try to load, such as Ulead visual studio 7, or whilst I am rendering video.
What is the problem??

this sounds like bad RAM

how long has this been happening?
how old is the system?

Try, temporarily, slowing down the memory. If the problem goes away, the the problem will be that the memory is "nearly" fast enough. If it doesn't there could be a bad area/location. Does it consistently report the same address?

no the addresses vary considerably.
I will try slowing down and let you know.
Thankyou.
