I am a bit confused about what arrives in my in-box. Lots of it isn't even addressed to me so why does my server deliver it to me? If I send an e-mail I don't expect it to be delivered to anyone other than the addressee so how come others can send an e-mail addressed to bloggs@etc and I receive it. It's like the postie delivering random letters to my letter box.

Is there a site which explains how stuff not addressed to me gets here, does my server not read the "To" address?

Usually (not always) if it is not addressed to you it is spam. Your email address has been typed in the BCC field (blind copy). So it does not show up as being sent to you in the To: field. If it is spam then thousands of other email addresses will have been entered into the BCC field as well. You are not alone.
