Go to this page (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp) and try there.

That's the page I was trying and the driver updates are greyed out. I have tried reloading XP but it makes no difference.

Hmmm.... what are your cookie settings set to? You may have to lower them before it will let you in. You will also have to accept Active X as well so ensure that your settings for that are on Prompt.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools, Options, Security, Custom Level, Active X Controls and Plugins and set all the following:
Download signed Active X controls
Run Active X controls and plug-ins
Script Active X controls marked safe for scripting
to Prompt.

Try to log on as Administrator and see what whether you can complete your Windows update. I had the same problem sometime ago and I managed to updated my xp successfully after loging on as Administrator.

Good luck.

Got it sorted at last. Went to IE6 - tools - internet options, and set everything to default. He presto it now works!
