Given the dirty tactics of Verisign to send you to it's Sitefinder page when you type in an incorrect .com/.net address, I tried to block it in my Hosts file. it didn't work for me - can anyone else successfully block the Sitefinder page using this method?

My Hosts entry is:

127.0.0.1 http://sitefinder.verisign.com
127.0.0.1 www.verisign.com
127.0.0.1 64.65.61.123
127.0.0.1 http://sitefinder.verisign.com/index.jsp

If I can't get it to work via Hosts, I guess I'll get the firewall to dissallow thier site.

Thx

I think you'll find that most ISPs will end up doing that side of things for you in not too much time. From what I've been reading anyway it sounds as if a lot of places are patching it.

No it won't work with the hosts file because when you type an incorrect address unless it is in your hosts file it has already left your PC for DNS lookup.
The first entry is the one and will only stop you going there if the request starts from your PC. The other entries are unneccessary.

Hi Greg,

Orcon have patched their DNS servers with the "ignore wildcard" patch so use their DNS servers and you'll be right.

To use their DNS servers you have to dial up to them.

Probably nothing as shortly they will all be circumventing Verisigns sick ploy.
