No dig ram count till 90 seconds after start

I have a PII 350 Compaq desckpro and when I start up the computer instead of seein the usual ram count all I get is a flashing curser for 90 seconds then the total ram is displayed. then the computer tales another 2 1/2 minutes to load. It has onle happend this week after Downloading from Kazaa and recieving 6 virus's in the downloads.
I have removed the virus's. I have no settings for doing Quick boot and disableing the ram count in the bios, I am running winxp pro

It is now a slow computer

Does your antivirus software scan for boot sector viruses?

Yes I am using AVG and it has a boot Block test, I had the thought that it might be a virus in the Boot Block, so I will try another detecter either Nortons or Pccillen.
Ant other suggestions will be most appreciated

Go into the BIOS setup, and run the diagnostics. Maybe they turned your cache off. It might pay to set the BIOS to its defaults.
